Bryn Mawr College
Request to enroll in 5.5 units
Faculty rules prohibit students from taking in an overload of 5.5 units without the permission of the Special Cases Committee. The Committee will consider requests from students in good standing who have completed at least one semester at Bryn Mawr.
During the first week of the semester,* interested students should register for the 5.5 units they want to take, attend each course, and consult with their dean and major advisor(s) (if declared). Those who then want to continue in 5.5 units must submit this petition by the end of the second week of the semester.
The Special Cases Committee will review petitions and inform students of their decisions before the end of the third week. In evaluating requests, the committee will take into consideration the student's record, reasons for taking this particular load in this semester, and plan for making time to do so successfully. Students denied permission must drop down to a maximum of 5.0 units by the end of the third week of the semester. Students who receive permission to remain enrolled in 5.5 units will be held to the same deadlines, procedures and expectations as students who enroll in a normal course load.
*Students enrolled in 5.0 units who want to add a half-unit second-quarter course mid-semester should consult their dean and major advisors and submit this form in the eighth week of the semester.
